Help Home Insurance!

Hi I just wanted to know if anyone can help please. My Hubby & I brought our house 3 years ago. We are having some work doing on the the floors downstairs as the previous owners blocked up the air bricks. It came to light whilst looking over our house survey that our house has suffered some movement in the past but the surveyor said there was no immediate danger of this happening again. I obviously have to declare this on home & contents insurance but they want to know when the movement happened & what was done to rectify it. This issue is, i have no idea! how do i get around this??? Id really appreciate so help.

You can only tell them what you know

However, please be careful that they do not cancel your policy on you, since this will become declarable for any insurances that you take out for the future.

The surveyor's report is somewhat vague, insofar as it 'no immediate danger' could mean anything. You may wish to get a structural engineer's report - this may be the best way of putting insurer's mind at rest.

Be careful how you go from here, and be sure to avoid them cancelling your policy which will cause you untold problems for the future.

You will need to declare the information that you have. There's a chance that some insurers may exclude subsidence.

I would recommend that you endeavour to obtain quotations. You will need to disclose the survey findings.

There are some specialist insurers who can assist with properties which have suffered subsidence/movement.

You may need to (and may wish to) obtain a structural engineer's report.

Could be worth finding an insurance broker somewhere near where you live and explain the problem to them and see what they suggest or come up with.

May well be cheaper than online in this case.
