DNO take 10 days for a budget quote but not normally a full on approval.

I applied on the 22nd December and got my answer early March.

After all this I wish I had added another 4 panels as I do have the space and applied for a 7kw system as when I did the budget quote they approved 7kw. :-(
Now if I want to increase later when I get a battery Ill have to fit another Inverter.

What do you mean a budget quote? There's been no mention of any costs when approval came through on 18th March, otherwise I'm assuming my installer would have told me.

I've emailed him to find out.

I have a transformer on the edge of my property and about 10m from the barns, which is primarily why the installer encouraged me to have a bigger system. He was fairly certain the DNO would come back quickly with a yes.

EDITED TO ADD: Installer got back to me and told me I have the full and final approval with no costs and nothing else to wait for.

Hi. As well as the yes and no options, the DNO might suggest a yes if you pay to upgrade the nearby infrastructure, or of course upgrade to 3 phase.

Like me, your DNO obviously decided the existing kit could cope with a greater export, and simply said "Yep".

Going a bit off topic, but a while back I learned an interesting fact - DNO's by law (or regs) have to suggest the cheapest form of connection for new housing, so typically, that's exactly what the developer will go with.

But, things might change, as connecting up new developments with 3 phase would allow for more distributed generation, and also for potentially higher peak loads (at night) from EV charging.

If you have 3 phase, then export without prior permission triples to 11kW. Nice! ;)
