Problems with Kia, what can de done?

Hello,
My wife has a 63 plate Kia Sorrento which we purchased in 2015, two weeks ago the car broke down and had to be towed to the garage by the RAC, the fault has been identified as a problem with the HP fuel pump and the system contaminated with metal particles, the cost of labour for this is £1607 and the cost of the parts to repair it is £3431 and so with VAT added the cost to pay is £6046. With Kia's 7 year warranty this should be covered however we did miss a service in 2016 but in 2017 we did a double service at the suggestion of the same garage the car is currently at waiting for the repairs to be done, when we did the double service the dealership said this will restore your warranty and put on the invoice which I still have as 40K and 80K mile service kit which we paid for but now Kia HQ have told us via the dealer that this isn't the case and the warranty is not valid and they have refused to cover the costs under the warranty. I accept that the service was missed but believed we had the warranty in tact as the told us it was, since then in 2017 and 2018 we have had the car maintained in accordance with the manufacturers service indication. We have a meeting with the dealer principle of Wednesday, my question is do you think I have a valid case, I appreciate its weak, any comments most welcome

You don't, sorry. Kia's warranty is explicit. Anything that you have been told otherwise will need to be evidenced.

It says it on their invoice that the 40K service was carried out and paid for, I agreed to this on the understanding it brought the warranty back into line, surely then this is a misrepresentation if they are now saying different,

Then thats between the dealer & their customer.
Kia are very unlikely to be involved and the OP needs to accept they have no warranty on their car now.

I accept that the work was not carried out at the specified time but believed that I was still in warranty, is their likely to be any recourse from Kia. I have looked at getting recon parts for the job and getting a non Kia dealer to do the work and then once its done get rid of it, the pump alone from Kia is £1400, a recon one is £420. I'm prepared to have a go at the dealership first though

Kia's seven year warranty is the longest there is (in the UK; ten years is available in other countries), but you do have to stick rigidly to the servicing schedule.

You don't have any recourse with Kia as you haven't followed their T&C's regards to time.

You may have a claim against the dealership if they have advised you that by having the additional service your warranty would be intact. I would assume a judge would only award cost of the additional service rather than the cost of the repair.

Personally, I would speak with the dealership and let them try and get you some sort of concession between themselves and Kia.

You can't undo any damage done from missing a service by having two together or having the one that should have been done later on and that is why Kia are saying the warranty is no longer valid.

Agree with the responses above but one wonders which part of a service would have checked, tested, inspected or prevented a fuel pump from disintegrating?

Mostly agree on that. However, if the HPFP was mechanical rather then electrical then it would have been partially lubricated by engine oil. If that was not optimal it could have been the reason for the pump failure.

They HP pump is lubricated by the diesel fuel itself, the reason services are important is fuel filters for common rail diesels catch smaller particles and water then older type fuel filters, the fuel flows back from the injectors and the common rail to the tank, the fuel picks up small particles of metal from normal wear. which go back to the tank and are then caught hopefully by the filter before returning to the rail. High pressure pumps and modern injectors are far more susceptible to damage from contaminated fuel. If the dealers can actually see metal particles (and not just assuming) it points to a pretty badly worn HP pump. Which apart from the pintel in the injectors is the only moving part of the system.
