Claiming money from a foreign savings account

Hi, I was born in France and moved back to the UK with my Mum when I was young. A savings account was set up in my name before we left and I am looking to claim the money in the account now I'm 22. But after asking about the account they have told me it was closed last year because it was inactive for 10 years! Is there anything I can do?

Ask them what actually happened to the money if it was a decent amount. I've had a UK savings account closed to me due to years of inactivity, but when I went into a branch with my old documents to ask where the money that had been in the account had ended up, they were able to trace it by checking through accounts marked inactive & closed.

I had to go back in with documents to verify my details & once this was done monies were placed into a new easy access savings account enabling me to withdraw the whole lot

If it was just a small amount, it's possible the bank just absorbed your money & have no trace of it now.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

The savings account is in France?
You need to check what are the French rules regarding such accounts.
UK has a process for this but France could well be different.
