Which switch takes priority?

On 12th March I switched my electricity supply from Brilliant Energy to Bulb. This was confirmed by Brilliant via email and also by Bulb who gave me a start date of 2nd April.

Then on the evening of 15th March I received an email from SSE informing me that Brilliant had ceased trading and that I would be switched to SSE.

So which switch will got through? I would like to think that the original switch to Bulb will be honoured but I'm not sure and the guy from Bulb that I spoke to wasn't sure either. Any ideas?

As you were still a customer when Brilliant went to the wall, they will have to move you over to SSE. This will more than likely mean that your switch to Bulb will fail.

But the change of supplier to SSE is a switch and there was already a switch to Bulb in progress. Surely the first switch takes priority?

Switch has yet to be accepted so you are a Brilliant customer until it does .
However as SSE are now responsible you may well lose your switch .
All depends upon the actual progress of the switch but as its not 1 -4=19 yet switch probably lost .
  • Normally the first switch requested is the one that goes through, not sure on the solr case if they have anything that overrides this.

Ask them to check Ecoes (Elec national database) it will what's going on and the status of your switch

You would have been switched to SSE (or one of their regional trading names) on Friday 15-Mar-2019, as per the direction of the regulator, Ofgem, issued on 14-Mar-2019.

You were switched directly. You did not pass go; you did not collect £200; you did not get any 14 day cooling off period.
    It happened.

There would still be 17 days available to achieve a switch to your new supplier of choice to complete on 02-Apr-2019, and if the supplier is on the ball, they should still be able to achieve it. But you may find the switch to your supplier of choice is delayed.

Without sounding too smug (ok perhaps a little :j ) but my optimism was justified. My original switch to Bulb did go through and they started supplying me from today. I don't know who will collect my final bill from Brilliant Energy?
