What notice do I need to give for utility bills when moving?

So I am hopefully moving the end of April from a rented apartment to my own place.

I'm concious that this is only about 6 weeks away, so I need to consider notice periods for all the utility bills. I only really have electric, water and phone line/broadband.

I am assuming phone/broadband (BT) is 30 days? But what if I am transfering and moving the service?

What about water and electricity? Do I need to actually give notice, or do I just call up on the last day with a meter reading?

On moving day, notify the energy supplier/s & water giving them the meter readings, also give them your new address so they know where to send your a Final Bill

Contact BT now for their procedure.

On the day you move in to the new address, notify that dwellings Energy supplier/s and give them the meter readings, same goes for water if you have meter

Telecoms are the only bills where advance notice is useful, the others you can just confirm when you actually have moved.

As others have said, energy and water and council ta x don't demand notice although if you have fixed term energy agreements you may have committed to an early cancellation fee. Did you?

BT may also have put you on a fixed term contract if you ever rang them to negotiate a broadband or other deal; and as others say, if you plan to use them at the new place, ring em in good time; they always seem to take a few weeks to set up a new broDbaNd or landline or TV deal

Thank everyone for the replies. I let my electricity deal lapse in Feb knowing I was moving so I should be fine there. With BT, I am out of contract with the phone line but not the broadband. However, I am moving to a new build and if its like my current place (which was new build) BT were the only option anyway. I'll give them a call to see what they can offer.

Take photos of the meters when you move out.
That way you can prove to the energy companies and old Landlord what you owe.
Inform the council tax people as well.
