I used to be known as "voucher queen" to my friends, but no more I am afraid. I went to a Tesco store (usual cashier...young lad) and he was happily scanning my vouchers - £'s came off and then he turned around to the cashier behind him and said "are we allowed to take this one..." (dont know why he suddenly had the need to ask...), and she turned around and said "no, nor that one, nor that one, nor that one......" and started adding them all back to my bill!!! I was mortified! Admitedly, there were coupons where I hadnt bought the item, but crikey - was I embarassed!0

went again to tescos today and used another load of vouchers. I said to the lady
"i do love these vouchers!!"
she said "I do too!! i get loads from the internet!"
The only ones she looked twice at was ones that looked similar but wernt. I asked why and she said as long as they are for different things then its not a problem.0 -
I went to my local Tesco in the afternoon yesterday and bought about £10 worth of goods then handed over 1 x £4.99 and 2 x £1.50 coupons from the Daily Mail last week. The bloke scanned them and said that will be £2 odds.
I was really pleased and went back on my way home in the evening and bought £10.29 worth of goods and handed over 1 x £4.99, 1 x £3.50 and 1 x £1.50. This time the girl scanned them all, smiled and said - 30p please.
I am now wishing that I had got more of the Daily Mail coupons as it is not ofter that I get high valued ones like this.Your really can not beat a good bargain !!!0 -

I would suggest to everyone that has problems redeeming vouchers at their local Tesco stores to EMAIL Tesco customer service:
customer.service@tesco.co.uk
Let them know the store name/location and the name of the manager or shop assistant involved. As they have a company-wide policy on accepting coupons, they should honour it.
I have had some discussions with Tesco head office and they have told me that whilst they do have a company policy, coupon acceptance is at the discretion of the store manager.
I suspect some stores have had problems with redeeming photocopied coupons or those meant for other stores (i.e. they can't get their money back) and the manager has taken the decision to ban all coupons because of this.
The only exception seems to be the Sainsbury's £x off a £x0 spend vouchers, they do seem to be accepted by all Tesco's, even those which have banned other coupon use unless you buy the product. Perhaps Tesco head office refunds the store direct for these coupons?
I think the best way is to look at this as a perk, rather than a right - hand over your vouchers, if they are accepted great, if they are not, you haven't lost anything. And if you are lucky enough to live near a Tesco which does accept vouchers, please don't use photocopied vouchers as it might mean that the manager will revise their policy and you will end up like in my area, with no local Tesco's accepting vouchers unless you buy the product.0 -
i work for Tescos in liverpool and although im not a cashier ive seen the announcements on the board in the staff area and the policy in OUR store is to only accept manufacturers coupons/vouchers up to 10% of the total transaction.
"E.g. If the customers bill is £95 we can only accept up to £9.50 of coupons. No more!"0 -
Personally I think we are very lucky to be able to do this.
And it really annoys me when you get people moaning that they will not take the vouchers for things they have not bought. As if it is there right to do that.
It also annoys me when people on forums tell others to e-mailing head office etc to get the latest policy for the use of vouchers for none bought products. The more people that do that the more likely they are to clamp down.
As I have said before. Just put a couple through on each shop, And no one will notice. But if people abuse it they it will be withdrawn.
One reason why a lot of supermarkets don't take internet vouchers as they can be copied easily.
If it is 10% it is 10%. Just hand the vouchers over and they take what they want and hand back the rest. Don't make a scene over it. As the manager will put a ban on it totally. As it is company policy but if the manager does not want to do it is there choice. So don't annoy then and get there backs up.
If they will not take the vouchers then take it up with the manager not head office. The manager can then explain why they don't like taking vouchers for none bought products.
We all know that if they could be bothered they could programme the tills to only take vocuhers for what you have bought. And then where would everyone be. Yes paying full price for there shopping.
So come on use a little common sense don't abuse it or the staff they are just doing there job. And they don't get paid that much to take abuse and hassle from customers which seems to be coming a more everyday thing. (not that I am saying that any MSE's are abusing or hassling staff this is just a general comment)
Sorry I have rambled on but it does get my goat a bit.

I've just done some shopping in Tesco - Swansea Marina Superstore.
I used the self service and scanned a telegraph 40p off voucher with the correct day, date, etc but a message popped up asking for "Store approval".
An attendant came over and asked what I'd used so she opened it up and said I couldn't use it if I hadn't bought the product. I showed the email but she was adamant that she was right. I didn't take it up with the Manager but I would suggest going to the tills as they know the company policy. I wonder if they have finally brought the axe down on this "loop-hole".
And like the previous post, I would advise that you don't shed a whole load of vouchers at the till and then whine when they don't get accepted.0 -
I have been using coupons for over a year now,I have noticed how they are becoming stricter with coupons,It must be down to people abusing the system which is a real shame.
Gallows Corner,Essex are checking all coupons that go through the self scanning tills as some IDIOT tried to put loads of somerfield coupons through anyway they got caught,so I hope that has put them off.
Why is that some people have to abuse the system, there are loads of coupons around without having to use out of date coupons or coupons that you know they dont take, just to see if you can get away with it.
