when does 14 days start for click and collect

Hi all, I bought some trousers online and they were delivered 'click and collect'. The delivery took longer than expected and then I was overseas so I wasn't able to get to the store for three weeks. I have now picked up my order, and I've found that the trousers are too big so I'd like to send them back. My question is, when does the 14 day period (within which you need to inform the seller that you intend to return an item for refund) start from? Hopefully it is from the day I picked up my order rather than when it was delivered to the store. Thanks for any advice.

It's from the day the item was delivered. Assuming you paid online then having them delivered to store is no different to having them successfully delivered to your house and someone else accepting delivery whilst you're away.

By agreeing to the click and collect terms you're essentially allowing the store to take possession of the goods on your behalf until you can collect them yourself.

Unfortunately not - you can't expect a seller to extend the period just because you were away.

Though most clothing retailers will have more generous returns policies than the statutory minimum, so hopefully not a problem in practice.
