Retro Fitted Central Heating

Hi
I have just been to view a bungalow that has retrofitted central heating. The cold water pipes are in the floor but the hot water pipes come down from the ceiling. The property has a back boiler and in the loft the pipes appear to come off one for each radiator
Has anyone had any experience of this and upgrading the boiler to a combi and the costs incurred?
Many Thanks

The cost of replacing a boiler will vary a lot depending on factors like who does it, how big the property is, and the pipework changes required.
British Gas recently quoted me £5.7k for a boiler replacement, and a local heating engineer quoted me £2.5k - both for the same replacement boiler. (It needed very little pipework changes).
But it sounds like you'll be relocating the boiler (so pipework changes for that), and and changes to the the hot water pipework (for the combi).
I guess you'll keep the current radiators and pipework, wherever possible.0 -
hi eddddy its only a small 2 bed bungalow 6 radiators in total and ideally if i can keep the boiler in the loft i would. so yes to replace on a budget thanks0

Not sure how you expect anyone here to be able to quote.
get 3 local independant Gassafe engineers round.
make sure they quote like for like ie same boiler, same pipework, same powerflush etc.0 -

We’ve had this done in November (3-bed terraced, South East)
- removed back boiler and both water tanks
- installed combi boiler in the loft and run all pipework, drain the system etc etc (flue went through roof)
- replaced 5 radiators with new radiators and one with a towel rail
- removed electric shower and installed shower and pipework for it
The cost for the boiler replacement incl removing the old stuff was £3574 + VAT
Radiators £1340 + VAT
Shower £481 + VAT
In addition a bit for an electrician to install power in the loft.
Having the radiators replaced was choice - the old ones may have been ok.
We’ve had quite a bit of pipework to run (up from the gas supply, through two bedrooms and landing and then up into the loft). I’d suggest to do it before you move in if possible, particularly if a lot of pipework is needed.0
