Best place to Sell Jewellery

I have some nice old fashioned jewellery. I dont need it anymore and as I have no one I want to leave it to, I was wondering where is the best place to sell it?
I have all the original purchase receipts and valuations. This isnt Ratner-style stuff, for example I have a diamond ring made in 1911 with half carat diamonds. There is a watch with a diamond bracelet setting from 1960's. etc, etc.
I thought about sending it to auction but I dont know if this is the best place for it .Would I be better pawning it and not retrieving it? How does that work ? I dont want to out it on Ebay not sure it would be a good idea...any suggestions would be welcome

Bring it in to a couple of local jewelers who buy and sell second-hand jewellery. That will at least give you a fairly honest indication of value.
Expect to get somewhere between 30% and 50% of what you paid.

A pawn shop will only pay you based on the raw material value. Which can be a good price but usually isn't.
Most auction houses that deal in that type of thing would advise you if they would sell or not. Most will be able to deal with you by email so if you have a few pics and the value then it could be worth ringing round. Most reputable auction houses would let you know if it's worth them selling rather than just accepting it from you.
I'm not in that field at all but I do know it's hit and miss, ie some items would only be worth a scrap value where others may be fashionable..0
