Amex travellers cheques in father's name

Hello,
I am struggling to cash in some Amex dollar traveller cheques that are in my Father's name. I have his Power of Attorney. I tried his main bank and they said they couldn't cash them in due to the fact they were in dollars. I called Amex and spoke to someone offshore who clearly didn't understand what a POA was!
I am fine to put them straight into his bank account or cash them into £ and then put the cash in but at present they are burning a hole in my pocket. There is 650 dollar's worth. He has signed one part of the cheque.
Could someone suggest anything please?

The Amex site (did you not look on there?) says you can redeem them at the post office or call the UK service desk on 0800 587 6023

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I had difficulty in cashing US Dollar Amex TC.
I phoned the help line and they could only suggest the Post Office.
Went to the PO and they did not know how to cash them.
Went to John Lewis in Norwich as they have a Foreign Exchange Office.
They were so helpful, signed all the TC there and then and they were exchanged for sterling and no commission fee.0 -
I did originally contact Amex and got an offshore call centre who got themselves totally mixed up with what a POA means. They told me some nonsense about getting my father into an Amex office with ID but the whole point of a POA is that I become him! I really didn't have the time to explain how a POA works to someone poorly trained. I will try a Post Office but I suspect it will be down to the person I end up speaking to as to what happens next!0
