Missed payment causing bad credit

Options
Hello!

So I was being what I thought was organised and cancelled my direct debit to my barclaycard. Thing is I cancelled it a month too soon and so the final payment of £12 wasnt taken, I called and paid as soon as I realised and no late fee was added. The credit card is now at zero balance. But now this late payment is sitting on my credit file, I have asked barclaycard for a gesture of goodwill to remove it but they wont. Should i put a notice of correction on my file? I want to buy a house as soon as I find one and im worried as I have read that people are getting mortgages declined due to small missed payments like this. Or do I just ignore it? Everything else on my credit is perfect, except this!

Thanks!

Don't put a notice of correction on as it means any credit application has to go through a manual review not automatic acceptance/rejection.

One late payment is not the end of the world and can be explained during the application process.

I assume you will be using a broker and not applying directly.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.
  • What would the notice of correction say?

BC are reporting correctly what took place so why would they remove it?

Why would you cancel a DD, just let the payment go through.

Sometimes it might work if you go into Barclays and explain the situation, they can definitely phone in and speak to Barclaycard for you and they usually go through to a uk department who are sometimes more sympathetic. Give it a go It might work but you won’t know until you try and what have you got to lose.

    P. S I am not sure if you cancelled the direct debit because you closed the account but if you did then Barclaycard should of sent you a paper statement to show any outstanding amounts you owed before the due date.

Oh yes don’t put a notice of correction on your account. Poster above is right all automatic decisions cannot be made with a marker on your account and then it takes forever for them to remove it ..

    Good luck.

I cancelled it a month early, last payment was due to go put in Jan and I got mixed up and cancelled it. Makes it all the more annoying it was my error! It was the last payment to clear the balance.

Im not sure hence me asking for advice. Wasnt sure if it was better explain it on my report for lenders to see. I asked barclaycard for a gesture of goodwill as I read online some will remove it if it was a one off. Which it was.

  • Not much you can do really.
It’s only one marker and won’t have much of an impact.

And in 6 years time it will be gone anyway

But WHY did you find it necessary to cancel it? I have never had a problem of a credit card company taking a direct debit when nothing was due. Why the mad rush to cancel it?
With regard to the notice of correction, there is nothing to correct. The late payment has been accurately reported. It is your own fault for not checking your statement to see if a payment was due and your own fault for cancelling the direct debit in the first place. What are you going to say in this notice of correction?
