Gas meter serial number

Hi
Does anyone know if it's possible to get the type of gas meter (imperial or metric) from a meter serial number? The meter has since been replaced but I have a query with charges and would like to know!
The only thing I'm able to do now is compare the kWh usage from the smart meter to what I've been charged for a similar time of year.
Thanks!

It should say it on your actual meter. All new meters (including smart meters) are metric and not imperial.0

I think OP wants to know about his old meter - now scrapped - and the info he has is on the bills. From this serial number alone can you identify - maker, model, metric etc ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Sorry about that, misread your post.
The only thing I can think of, is that there are approximately 3 times more kWh of gas in an imperial unit than a metric unit.
So if your comparison is round about the same as your smart meter reading, it will most probably have been a metric meter. If it is around 3 times greater, then an imperial meter.0 -
Old meters that record in ft (imperial) only have 4 digits, new meters that record in M3 (metric) have 5 digits.0

Thank you.
So looking back at my readings from many years ago, the meter seems to have circulated from the 9000's to the 100's so a 5th digit was never in place. This must confirm that it was imperial - I'm right in thinking that arent I?0 -
The old meters have 5 or 6 digits- first 4 only are used .Metrics have 8 digits first 5 digits used
Once an imperial meter reaches 9999 it go s around to four zeros and carries on0 -
Yes. PM me the old serial number and i'll tell you.0
