Five million UK homes set for smart meter madness as thirty per cent of devices to be installed in Government scheme won’t work properly
New ‘SMETS 2’ smart meters are meant to send data to suppliers automatically
But the new smart meters cannot yet be linked up with a central energy database
This means they will not function properly in about 30 per cent of the country Homes in the North of England and Scotland are the most likely to be affected

Don't tell me all the SMETS 1 meters so far connected in the North of England and Scotland are not yet connected to the Central Energy Database.0

Smets2 installs really didn't appear until 4th quarter last year. By 7th of Jan they had 250,000 of them installed. So really these things are still quite new (expect bugs).
There has long been knowledge that many Smets1 units wouldn't be able to be migrated over. The warnings for this type of problem have been around since 2012, but lack of formal (completed!) standards has probably been one of the worst problems.
In 10/20 years all of the old meters will be replaced, so it's probably not that big of a deal.0
