Hi
Yesterday morning I installed the latest m/s updates. Since then when I restart the computer the balloon comes up and states the firewall is currently set to off- click this balloon to fix it. I do this and then the m/s page showing firewall, antivirus etc shows up.
Was running Zonealarm, but now installed Comodo. I'm still having the same problem.
I was also thinking of getting rid of IE completely. I use Firefox. Is this a good idea?
Thank you.

what os are you using ?
have you got a modem or router?
if you have 2 software firewalls running at the same time they can cause conflicts
i just use my routers firewall and windows firewall and thats it0 -
I've got a Netgear DG834 wired router, which does have a firewall inbuilt, I think. But the problem started after this m/s update yesterday. Windows firewall is disabled already.
Any ideas?0 -
The screen you get is the Windows Security Centre, the reason that balloon keeps showing up is because Windows still wants to have it's own firewall running, if you look to the left of that screen there's a Resources box, bottom of the list is "Change the way Security Center alerts me" click it & untick the Firewall box that is on the new window.
Annoying balloon gone.
IE removal is almost impossible to do, just ignore it like I do & it won't bother you.Winnings
