How wind resistant are conifers?
Next door has this very tall fat conifer which is being blown to bits with the wind. No we can't do anything about it but wondered if they stand up to it better than other trees. The other side lost a tall tree the other day

Got a very old, tall conifer here a couple of doors down - I can see a small branch is snapped half way up but it seems to be happy as Larry, flapping around in the wind - the crows aren't so happy though - it's their favourite look out point and it's very exposed up there today
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?0 -
We have a small woodland and lots of trees near our house. We have a few conifers (which I hate) but the conifers seem to be standing up to the wind as well if not better than our old oaks etc. It has been very windy here and we are on an exposed site. I think it comes largely down to tree health.0

I did get a Scots Pine taken down last week as that was leaning right over our house and moving like crazy. I think I timed it well as the gales are stronger here today than they have been over the last couple of weeks. I will be glad when everything settles down.0

I'm hoping the neighbours conifer blows down personally, it's absolutely massive with about 6 trunks, it's over30ft tall and just completely excludes the sun in the day after 3 o clock from the garden.
Unfortunately, despite the squeaking and sqealing, it seems fairly sturdy.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
I feel your pain taff - they are absolute monsters.
We have several that are well over 30ft but thankfully they are at the bottom of our field so don't block light for us or anyone else. We do have a massive conifer hedge though near the house which the previous owners let grow around the electricity and bt wires!! We will have to sort it out but I wish they hadn't let it get to that state in the first place.
No place for them in gardens unless you are prepared to deal with them properly.0 -

I hate you.
I was worried in case someone asked what it is, so I looked it up and apparently it is rather special:

We found it by accident last year when deviating from a walk we sometimes do in those woods. Had no idea it was there.0
