My daughter is selling her flat and has just been contacted by someone who viewed it but he has said to her he is interested in it but can she rent it out while he trys to buy it. I've told her not to as this doesn't sound right to me. Has anyone else had this happen to them. Also when he viewed the flat he wasn't really interested then.

Do not do this under any circumstances.0

He wants a free ride and not pay rent, it will take you a long time to evict them"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

Don't do it, she will become a landlord with responsibities that come with it.
Does not pay, waiting months to evict and trashes it.0 -
If he was a genuine buyer, if he was interested enough to rent it, he'd be interested enough to buy. Tell her to not listen to any stories he comes up with, they probably aren't genuine and won't help her at all. She'd have to pay double SDLT for a start. Even if he did pay the rent (not a certainty) she'd be on to a loser from the start.
I have heard stories of this being done with people who want to sublet properties, not paying the owner the rent meanwhile.
Too much can go wrong. Look for a genuine money ready to go buyer if that's what she wants to do.0 -
No she must not do this. This is not the way that people buy flats. How did he contact her? Was it a letter or a phone call? If it was a phone call how did he get her number?
If she isn't using an estate agent now might be good idea to get one so that they can screen out people who can't afford it.0 -

My daughter is with purple bricks. I knew this fella was dodgy as he went for a viewing 3 weeks ago and said not really interested just wanted a look. Then out of blue today he contacted her saying he was interested but would she rent until sale went through. Straight away we told her not to but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't overreacting. Thank you to everyone's comments it has reassured us.0

He'll then say he's got the perfect tenant and then there'll be a cannabis farm in the flat quicker than you can say "waccy baccy"0
