hi folks, I know the "early spring" only lasted a week or so, we had frogs spawning in the pond, but only 4 or 5 normally we get 30/50
do you think the long hot summer has had an effect or maybe the dry winter ?

Not seen any evidence yet, but will be checking again in a couple of days when the weather calms - normally given the amount of predators round here, they keep their heads down (apart from Hot Tub Freddie):

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?

I've had 10-20 in my pond - about average - and a few big clumps of frogspawn. I think they've all abandoned ship now though, as my pond is flooding up the little 'beach' area with all the rain in the past few days.
We have a few who are residents, but I'm always amazed by how many turn up in spring. Where do they come from?! It's only a small pond, but they seem to like it.

Almost into toad season now. No frogs spawning with me, as I've not built the pond yet and our stream usually dries-up in May.

    Sorry frogs! :o

Do frogs (and/or newts) get along with toads ? We've all three at various times, and I'm fairly certain there's a toad under the steps in that photo I posted (unless you open the image, you might not notice the frog in the trough) We had gas main replacement recently, and while Cadent were digging up the road outside the house, a fairly indignant looking toad was sat on our doorstep having been evicted from the front garden

The frogs usually arrive well before the toads, then depart, so the majority of each don't meet at spawning time. Toads are fussier than frogs and don't apparently go to all the ponds frogs use.

As for newts, they seem not to be bothered whatever the other amphibians are doing. Always had plenty around and in my old pond used by the others.

Not many ponds in the immediate area, so I cheekily brought some in from woodland. I had at least a hundred little fellows hopping off in the the sunset last year - no spawn this year mind.
