Housing situation help

Hi guys, I will try and outline my situation and hopefully gain some advice in a dire situation.
My (36yo) mental illness (bipolar II, anxiety,PTSD) is creating problems at home (quiet rural area) with my parent (75 yo)
I receive the lower grade PIP payment which does not go far towards living expenses. My mother wants me out of the house as my condition is now too impact-full on her.
I can't go and move to a built up area as I get high anxiety and paranoia around people. I want to remain in the area I currently reside, close to family who can keep an eye on me, as it is where my condition can be best managed.
I had thoughts of putting a mobile home on the area beside my house to give my mother a bit of respite from my condition, and to try and build myself and my life back up again. Basically I had a 3 year period where my mania ensured that I threw away all my lifes work/all my savings/all my personal/social relationships and, like a big game of snakes and ladders, I am back on the first square
The only thing I have is family support, but knowing this illness, that could slowly disintegrate over time also.
What are my options in regards housing benefit for renting a mobile home on family property?

Who owns the mobile home? Unless a third party, not you or family, and you have a real tenancy agreement you'll get nothing.0 -
I was hoping to rent one from someone, a mobile home supplier type company, even though lots only seem to be for outright sale. I'm sure they would at least discuss a rental arrangement. Even a person who owns a mobile and lives within a reasonable proximity to my home may be an option, to save on costs of transporting it a long way.
The outright purchase of a mobile isn't an option for the foreseeable future.
All the info and posts I read online so far dealt with people who had the mobile stationed in holiday/caravan parks.
Can you give me a bit of information on what is deemed "a real tenancy agreement"?
Just a paper contract that states they are my landlord and in agreement to let me rent/put the mobile on my property?
I'm sure a caravan company would have such paperwork available, but a private person/seller would have to make one I guess.0 -
Is it an assured short hold tenancy I would need to sign?0

Are you receiving any benefits other than PIP?
ESA for example?
What is your financial situation? Your last post talks of owning half a house with your girlfriend? Did they actually happen?
You may be eligible for Universal Credit if you have savings/capital less than £16000.
As regards the housing situation then I note you are in Northern Ireland?
You could investigate the housing situation in your local area - do you have a local housing office that you can go to and discuss your situation? Or a Citizens Advice?
As regards the mobile home idea. You could certainly research your options as to regards renting one and being allowed to place one somewhere.
If you were able to rent one then you could certainly apply for housing costs through Universal Credit (if you are eligible for this) as this would not be seen as a contrived tenancy if you were not renting from family.0 -

a) No ESA
b) No half purchase of half a house, in hindsight that was a half baked idea in the midst of another manic episode. Thankfully I escaped that particular fateI was in an entirely different financial position then. What a difference a few years makes, the joys of bipolar. I'm actually smiling and at how different my only posts are on this site. Thanks for cheering me up
c) Savings under 200gbp, and in small debt to a family member but they are cool with waiting until I am better to sort that out.
d) Based in NI yes. So far in the last week my sister and my own research has only been based around planning permission (99% sure it is not needed) and how to connect power (100% sure I will need that)
I will look into Universal Credit on Monday morning i guess. Would Universal Credit give me any ongoing additional financial help outside of housing costs?
I have not left the house in 2 full months due to my condition, not a step outside, and PIP does not go far beyond food and a small bit to my Mum for housekeeping. If I was to get myself into a position to rebuild my life I would have a hard time as things currently are.
I used to receive DLA and some mobility aspect (cannot fully remember) and Income Support, but got PIP on the lower rate with no mobility after they changed.
Thanks for such detailed responses so far, so early in the morning!!0 -
Housing costs aside, is there an equivalent of the Care Act in Northern Ireland which couid not only offer you support, but also give your parents some support as carers to take some of the strain off them? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
So you would pay 'rent' to the caravan/mobile home supplier?
Your Mother would charge you rent for the use of the land next to the house?
1) You won't have a tenancy agreement just a hire agreement.
2) Your Mother cant charge you rent for the caravan as she doesn't own it.
3) Your Mother could charge a 'pitch' fee - but you will be living on a property you previusly resided at and would share facilities (bathroom/kitchen/toilet) so highly unlikely that you would receive any financial help for moving a few feet from your home to the garden.I enjoy flower arranging, kittens, devil worship, the study of serial killers and their methods and road kill jigsaws.0 -

When I mentioned DLA/mobility earlier, the mobility bit was for family to take me to appointments/out socially etc.
That hasn't been available since the PIP decision. Probably should have appealed the initial PIP decision, as my family were still supporting me in that same capacity, just not getting any money for petrol etc.0 -
You would need planning permission from the council to live in a mobile home on private property.0

1)Payment made to supplier, yes. (rental fee/hire fee, whatever the fee may be basically)
2)No payment to my mum for placing the mobile in the garden.
3)She wouldn't charge me. She is in receipt of widows pension and whatnot as she is 75yo. If she was to get paid a fee that may have some impact on her current situation, and I'd rather make her current situation as "uninterrupted" as possible. God knows I cause enough upheaval as is.0
