I've some Sedum (Autumn Joy) around the garden, and I know it's best propagated by division, but when I cut the heads back over xmas, I kept a small tub of seeds after sprinkling some around the nether regions of the garden. Some of the spring buds I've rescued in the past have taken a couple of years to fill a small pot, so what about seeds ?
Worth sowing in pots an leaving a few years ?

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?

Always worth a try, nothing to lose, like a lot gardening, the outcome could surprise youEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0

Thanks, well I've sowed some, but part of the reason of posting was that I was going to bag up some batches and offer to MSErs here for free/on a karma basis - so watch this space...

You're not allowed to call them Sedum now. Some kind botanist-type has re-classified them as Hylotelephium, which I'm sure you'll agree, is much simpler and rolls off the tongue beautifully.
Personally speaking, Hylotelephium spectabile annoys me. It spends nearly all season looking only moderately interesting, but then, when it flowers, it goes all floppy and falls over. [STRIKE]If this happens with the selected ones, God help you with the ragamuffins from seed![/STRIKE]
Me, I grow Purple Emperor... 'cos I sell it when it's still young and pot-able, but I've dug up Frosty Morn and thrown it as far as I can... horrible, variegated, weedy thing. Also, Vera Jameson is small, so if she flops, she does it tastefully, draping herself on the side of the path, rather than collapsing in a big pile.
Anyway, good luck.0 -
Yes I hate the floppiness, but it was here before us, and the bees absolutely love it

If you've time on your hands try the "Chelsea chop" on them
I do this with mine & it works, I chop the front ones but leave those at the rear to get on with it

Well - I've about four envelopes of seeds if anyone wants to try sowing them. Just PM me and I'll send out 2nd class in the next week or so on a karma basis (ie I don't want money for postage).
First come first served, once they arrive you're on your own
