HI All !... we had many new ford cars overs the years ( Under their "options" scheme) can anyone tell me who provided credit on these cars prior to about 2005 ? I have some details on the first car we had ( Reg number) in 1996 and wondered if we could find who provided the original finance ?
Any ideas ?
Thanks !

So you would complain to the Ford dealership who sold you the PPI (if they are still trading twenty-three years later).
Unfortunately, car dealers were not regulated prior to 2005 and so can (and will) dismiss your complaint without even considering it.
It's also likely there will be no records of any finance or PPI for that car two decades on. If all you have is the registration and no PPI documentation then you might just as well give up now as the odds are overwhelmingly stacked against you.

...but what if you have the documentation? Mine’s a 99 purchase. Also, if you know you had it and actually utilised it, is there still a viable case for it having been Mis-sold? I.e. led to believe you had to have it?0

Only if you have a time machine, as it would still be pre-regulation.
Was your car a Delorean?0 -

Car dealers were not regulated until Jan 2005 as already mentioned.
Remember that there is nothing wrong with having PPI. Just having it doesnt make it missold. The whole PPI issue is about how it was sold and whether rules were breached. Car dealers were not subject to any rules in 1999. So, they routinely reject complaints about sales from before Jan 2005 as being pre-regulation.
The exception is if the dealer as an agent of the lender. Some were. Most were not.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Regardless, it's pre-regulation as already explained.0
