Having Smart Meters Removed - Advice Please

Just an update. I have just received this reply from the ombudsman.
"There are currently no rules relating to whether or not a supplier should replace a smart meter that they have installed with a traditional meter. As such, it is down to the individual supplier. We expect suppliers to take into account their broader obligations to deliver the smart meter rollout in establishing their approach".......
Read into this whatever you want? Thanks everyone0 -
Theres an article on this smart meter must have here,it might be best to see if a smaller supplier would consider removing this meter.

This is from september 2017.
Ask an expert: 'Can I get rid of my smart meter?'
EDF said customers rarely requested the removal of a smart meter but if they did the company would comply.

Here at Scottish Power we can see plenty of discontent with these meters for various reasons.Mines not working properly either and want it gone.

I have been hassled from every supplier I have switched to over the past 4-5 years to have a 'smart' meter fitted and I have refused them all. I don't know what my options are going to be when my meters NEED replacing from a safety point of view (I think they are overdue now to be blunt) but I'm just not impressed by these so called 'smart' meters AT ALL!!
Loads of great info on Youtube, Google etc on how bad they are, I wont go into detail (look it up yourselves if you don't believe me) apart from saying I don't like the idea of being hacked via these new meters and the ACTUAL saving in usage with these new meters is ZERO!0 -
I have not been hassled at all from any of my suppliers, however I use SEE for my FIT and they want to install smart meters for me!
I think the OP (and the others that they are complaining with) need to look at current usage and past usage (if they have that data recorded). I find it odd that the new smart meters cant be "Pre-Pay" on the existing tariffs. I cant see it, but what "Tariff" does the BG PAYG switch to when you move onto a smart meter? In my area the PAYG plan is more expensive than the standard rate plan, and those are about 50% more than the cheaper plans.0 -
Hi chris301up - Smart meters can work in a traditional mode, so you can ask your supplier to disable the smart functions of the meter. If you were to opt for this the meter would simply operate in the same way as a traditional meter and will not transmit any data to your supplier. You would need to send in your meter readings manually, though, in order to receive an accurate bill.Verified Company

Just an update. I haven't yet had any luck with having the so called 'Smart Meters' removed. British Gas in fact have not replied to many emails regarding this matter. In the meantime I have decided to transfer to Bulb who are quoting energy supply at a much more competitive price. Will give them a go and see how prices compare. Thank you all for your advice. If I have any further information I will post in due course0
