Van insurance Tool cover and disclosure

Hi all,
I use a van for work - painter and decorator. I've been really savvy over the last few years building up on the insurance what i would call "bolt on cover" So i now have lost keys, full breakdown, tool cover etc etc. In Nov 2017 I had some kit stolen from the van about £700 worth, naturally I claimed. Yes i know its a big problem! Since then although my NCB was protected and hasn't changed my insurance has risen a huge amount. Yes i appreciate it will go up every year a bit and i do shop around. After the break in it shot up from £320 to about £480 and now they want £600! My question is as the tool cover was a bolt on and from a different underwriter i.e. not part of the actual motor insurance policy do i have to disclose it? I could get my tool insurance separately stand alone and not anything to do with my van policy throughly my public liability cover or elsewhere. Surely this cannot affect my premium that much? They don't ask whether you have had a home insurance claim when you apply for motor insurance and if the tools had been under a separate cover then why would i have to disclose it?
Feel like I've been stitched up here and the protected NCB is just a waste of time.
Any thoughts people ?

do i have to disclose it?
Depends on the question asked when applying for the cover.

Without the protected no claims your premium maybe even higher.

ie.. Your now a £1200 risk and get a 50% reduction for the no claims discount, instead of being a £1200 risk with just 30% discount, so it may have been £840 with just 2 years discount.

Along with the tool claim, your vehicle insurance should have been notified of the break in also. Whjo fixed the damage to the van?

Whether you claimed for the van or just the tools you suffered a loss/incident ehich your vehicle insurance will have asked about.

Accidents/claims or incidents where no claim was made. Check your terms, its usually something along those lines.
