IPOD and new Vista PC (Aargh!!)

Hi all,
Perhaps you can help?
We have recently purchased a Vista PC (I know, we tried to buy XP but there was nothing in our price-range).
We had an established IPOD music collection which we held previously on C drive on old PC and moved to external drive.
New PC - load i-Tunes and point to external drive for files. When we go to sync, it initially asks whether we want to overwrite the ipod files - well they are the same as the ones on the ipod so no problem, but it errors saying that "Cannot synchronise due to insufficient administrative privileges". The user has been set up in Vista as an admin rights user.
I haven't had time to work my way through the PC properly and OH is going bananas as he can't show off our wedding photos on the ipod!
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Just an idea how about drag the files to your new hard drive and load them from their?

We didn't want to do this as the C drive is likely to fill once I have loaded all the programs I am planning to load.
I actually run my iTunes on an XP machine at mine with files loaded onto an external drive which I transferred when the C drive got full on the other PC without a hitch so can't understand what the problem is.
Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

I read some stuff about ITunes not being 100% happy with Vista depending on version number (of itunes).
Current download on
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
is 7.5
Do you have that version?0 -
Have had a similar experience with another program and it's a pain in the bottom. What you have to check is your security setting via norton's or its own security centre. There are options there with actually hider your ability to do anything on the computer even if you are the administrator. What the major problem is that i-tunes wants to talk to the web site and due you your internet protection it can't co:o mmunicate with i-tunes online. Honestly it is that daft really.

Instead of starting iTunes normally try right clicking and then select run as administrator, see if that solves it.It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -

Matt
you have made one thing come to mind. on my vista pc when a pogramme trys to communicate with a website a box usually appears requiring me to ok it. this still happens if my dad is logged on and he does not have admin rights. what it does is ask for the administrators password which of course i put in if my dad needs me to.
so the question is, why arent you getting the box appearing asking you to ok it? i 'm sorry i dont know about that. whenever ever i am stuck i always click on the help and support on screen.0
