Strong cheese smell from kitchen, fridge?

My fridge is beside my kitchen door, from this time last week I noticed a strong cheese smell in kitchen, slightly noticable in living room.

I moved the fridge and the chest freezer and nothing under them, I did have strong cheese but that was previous week that I spilled some crumbs on floor so that was first assumption.

What I am thinking now is that a day or two before I noticed smell I switched my fridge to lowest setting as ice box was iced up about half, then when it was low I used gentle force to chip off the ice and now its frost free.

I don't know if doing that done something to the fridge, the fridge itself has no smell to it, and the smell is hard to pinpoint I can not smell it at all one minute then the next it smells strong..

I didn't get a chance to lift cooker and washing machine more than a inch but I couldn't see anything under there and brushed anyway.

What make and model - usually on a silver label inside the door or wall.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Will check again later, I think it is the fridge without a doubt though as I moved it again and turned it off, found the drip tray at the back but it seems to be unremovable, what I did do though was manage to get a scouring pad in and it soaked up a lot of smelly liquid, and have sprayed vinegar in it and leaving for a hour and going to use another scourer to soak that up.

If that doesn't do trick I will check the model number.
  • We had this at work, someone had spilt milk in the fridge which went into the drip tray and then when rancid. The smell was unbelievable until we found out what it was.

Funnily enough no one owned up to spilling the milk!
I have a lot of problems with my neighbours, they hammer and bang on the walls sometimes until 2 or 3 in the morning - some nights I can hardly hear myself drilling ;)

You could try spraying a suitable cleaner down the tube from inside that leads to the drip tray at the back and also use a long cable tie as a push-through to make sure there is no gunk in the tube.

Wiring insulation that is ‘melting’ can have a fishy/ cheesy smell. Are the electrics ok?

First thing I would check is the light fittings, is there one with a shroud which may touch the bulb?
Plus do not defrost with an implement, use a hair dryer!

Don’t defrost with anything other than turning it off and leaving the door propped open and something to catch the melting ice. Chipping or using a heat source all risk damaging the fridge.
