HSBC switch reward - £150 not £175

Options
I've just completed a switch to HSBC having used the link on MSE which should have tracked at the special rate of £175 rather than the more widely advertised £150.

The switch reward has been put in my account, but it's only £150.
Is this an issue with HSBC or MSE?

Should I be chasing someone or just suck it up?!

As of right now, MSE say: "HSBC has told us it's having issues tracking this offer and if you apply now you'll get the standard £150 for switching. We're pushing it to fix the issue and will update this guide when we know more."

I am pretty sure MSE used to say that you will get £175 even though it say £150 on the HSBC website.

I'd certainly not suck it up, and I would now take some screenies if I were you, in case you need them. Right now, it looks as if any claim would have to be directed to MSE. So you might want to lodge your case with MSE straight away, too. You need to contact them by PM or email about it.
  • Thanks for the advice - that's really helpful.
I have no screenshots of the original offer (I naively assumed it would work so didn't take that precaution!) but will get in touch with MSE to see what can be done. I actually held off switching as MSE had advertised that there was a £175 offer coming up, so I did it the day that went live.
  • Hi, this doesn't sound right - we're working with HSBC to determine exactly what's happened here, could you email furtherhelp@moneysavingexpert.com with your details?

    Thanks,
    MSE Rosie

    Hi,

I opened an a/c with HSBC a few weeks ago and received my card/PIN etc and successfully registered for online banking. When I opened my account I did not select to use CASS at that point but yesterday I phoned to start the process. The HSBC staff member was very helpful and explained all about CASS (which I knew already) and then started the switch. At the end she then asked if I opened my account through a link on MSE. When I said that I had she said the reward would be £175 and not the £150 and would be creditted to my account within 30 days.

When I rang them today to enquire about the offer they confirmed it was £150 bonus if you applied directly on their website however, if you applied through MSE or MoneySupermarket etc it was £175.. I'd defo dispute this and get the extra £25!!
  • Update to my switch reward shortfall of £25...

Having had no response from e-mailing MSE, I phoned HSBC who said there had indeed been a problem tracking the switches but this was now fixed and anyone who should have received £175 would be getting the extra £25 within 30 days
