£1,800 to repair a leaking soil stack?!

Options
The soil stack from my upstairs bathroom is leaking, and I have just had a quote of £1,836 for one day of labour and materials to replace the pipe or repair the join dependant on where the leak is originating. I understand that because it is boxed in behind plaster boarding that this would be more expensive than if it was external, but this is far more expensive than I was anticipating. Are they having me on a bit do you think?
Price doesn't include re-plastering, just replacing the batten and board. Thanks.

But the bit in the middle, right in the middle, that stays where it is. Upness and downness go right through it. Don’t matter how high or low the ends go, it keeps the balance.”

Ridiculous. Is it made of plastic?

If it’s cast iron then it can easily be a few hundred per metre . A simple branch and clamps can be £150 plus

Sounds like a complete rip off to me
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

Thanks all, had a different plumber come out this morning, he replaced the collar and was in and out within a couple of hours. Just over £120 inc VAT. Will need to pay a bit more to someone else to replaster the access hole, but I'm so glad I checked with you guys and went with someone else!

Surely common sense would have told you to get other quotes?

Common sense told me that it was far too much money for one day’s work hence checking here.
I had a building surveyor and my house insurance company both saying I needed an emergency plumber and I live in a very rural area.
There was literally a choice of two - one of which gave the ridiculous quote, and the one who came today who wouldn’t quote over the phone.
Hope that now explains why I was looking for reassurance. There are some very helpful people on this forum, and it is an excellent resource for those of us like me who have had no prior dealings with tradesmen before owning our own homes, despite the sarcasm!

Should be £500 at absolute most. I'd try different tradesmen in your area if I we're you to get more estimates.
