O/S Daily Thursday 14th March 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one, and to people who are poorly or are looking after poorly people x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still blustery here but not as bad as it has been, dry underfoot.

DH and DS1 up and getting ready for work, I'm showered and dressed and have my porridge and coffee whilst on here.

Dinner last night was chicken in sauce with new potatoes, broccolli, peas, LO cauli/broc cheese, LO yorkshires and I had some extra veg that needed using up from the freezer. I remembered to get some sausages out to defrost for tonight's dinner, so it'll be full english with potato croquettes not hash browns.

Yesterday was either manic or dead - next week it will start getting busier I suspect.

I have my "to do" list for today - I have lots on it, so will get going with that, I'll be heading into town to visit the building society and bank first thing, then home to get cracking with the washing, drying and ironing and housework, also need to do some household admin on pc and make some phone calls.

Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Another very blustery night but slept through it better than last night. I didn't put the recycling wheelie out last night as I didn't want to be out picking all the contents up this morning. A few people thought the same but we have ventured out with them this morning as the lorry will be here any time soon.

In view of the atrocious weather yesterday we called our Skipton trip off and postponed it until Monday when the forecast is better! There was no chance of the market setting up in that wind!

Today my DB and SIL are taking me out for a belated birthday lunch which I am looking forward to. We are off up to the Dales somewhere (hope the wind eases!) and returning via Skipton as SIL wants to pop in the big M & S. I have already made a little list for myself - all the things I have been missing since ours shut down!

Need to be home by around 5.00 as the girlies are sleeping over and, of course, the usual Bolognese Bake will be for tea! I shall make sure that is sitting on the worktop ready for the oven before I go outI

Have you a good day all if you can and hope you are all surviving the storms intact. ((HUGS)) for all the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely and, of course, our absent friends xx

    Still raining!

Just about to go to work, the roads will be awful but needs must. Washing on the airers, I'll finish it off in the TD later and get it all put away (that's the worst job for me).

Hope RedRuby is having a good week away.
Hoping your DM is still making good progress Gers.
Hugs to the poorlies, carers and fed ups.

    Take care. XX

Good morning, and it seems to be wet and windy here, but there's blue sky as well. It's forecast to be sunny most of the day, like yesterday.

We seem to have missed the worst of the storm here.

It's a pity you had to cancel yesterday TA - hope all goes well today.

I'm meeting a friend in Newcastle today, we haven't seen each other for months so there'll be plenty of chat.

Thinking of Taff, Ger's 'Mum, Poppy, Holly, and others who are struggling with health problems or life generally.

    Take care folks

    Morning everyone

Another windy night here, it woke me up a number of times but I was determined to try and stay in bed :).

I've got two hospital appointments this morning. The first one with the surgeon and then one at lunch time with the oncologist so I'm going to stay at the hospital in between appointments, it's not worth coming all the way back home for a short time.

For some reason I'm worried about the outcome today but I don't know why. I should get the start date for the radiotherapy confirmed so that will be good.

When I get back I'm going to have a quick home made ready meal for dinner and treat myself to some cake as well.

Hope you all have a good day.

Morning! I think I'm getting the hang of this tablet lark, took half last night, woke up early and quite with it this morning..
Looks like my application for a blue badge was successful, useful for the SM, I will be giving it back as soon as not needed don't worry.
No sign of cat still, with this weather and the fact that thier real owner is probably very happy to see them, it's not a surprise.
Picking up a light from greecycle today, hoping it can be fitted in the bedroom, the light there is on it's way out [not surprising really, it's over 40 years old - realy original retro stuff] and I wanted a fan type light to see if that would work when it's hot in the summer. We don't tend to use the big light much so it's a trial, of sorts...

Hope it goes well for you Holly. Is the one with the surgeon for a wound check or reults of something? Did you get back safe Nelski? how's your side now camelot? Hope your mum is doing better Gers, and that you have had time to relax. Good luck not being blown away by the wind everyone, and wotcha MIA people
    Totally windswept Thursday all!

    Morning :)

Wow its quiet on here this morning ...everyone getting a nice lie in hopefully. I managed till 5.30 then stayed under my duvet for an hour or so catching up on the news :D

Good day yesterday although getting there and back was a bit hairy. Got in at 6.30pm which after leaving at 5.30am made for a long day for a relatively local job.

Not working today its mum day so wish me luck.

Food last night was sausage and beans...couldn't be bothered waiting for chips :o need to do a bit of a shop today as I am out of bread and salad stuff. Wont need anything today.

Holly hope the appointments go well and enjoy your cake!!

    nanny was dad well behaved?

Have a good day all and stay safe

    Morning all.

The wind has died down, just in time for the forecasted Storm Hannah tomorrow.

DM's cleaner is coming this morning. She's off for two weeks after this so I may as well get to done. I'm off to visit DM early doors as old friends are going to visit in the afternoon.

Good luck Holly and good vibes to everyone else who needs them. Thinking of poppy especially.

    Happy Thursday to all.

Good morning and thank you for starting today's thread NMLC.

It has been blowing a right hoolie here and tge rain has been lashing down but has stopped for now.

I started yesterday with waist length hair but now I have a chin length bob. My head feels so light, I'm enjoying it. Best if all, I was not sitting there for ages, the hairdresser just got on with it.

I'm meant to ge going shopping today so I need to time that carefully. I don't much mind getting wet but yesterday I struggled to cross one of Birmingham’s major roads against the wind. I wasn't the only one.

I might wage war on cobwebs today. I get most of them on routine cleaning but not the stairwell. I'll have to tape a long feather duster to a long stick or something. This might be fun but then again it could be disastrous. I think I'm the sort of person whose improvised dusting stick will collapse. I'm not tall but even if I were, the stairwell would have out of reach bits.

Thinking of Holly today, of Gers' mum and all those who are struggling.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

Holly, I hope all goes well today. It's only natural to be nervous about it. Laura is very nervous about the baby and can't wait until the scan next Friday - it was at that scan last time that they told her there was no heartbeat so she'll be a wreck.

TA, have a lovely lunch. If you are scouting for somewhere we like the Old Schoolhouse at Hebden or the own End Farm Shop at Airton is also nice.

It's horrible here but we have to go to Peterborough with Steve's electric piano for repair. He's really been getting back into playing recently so he wants to get it started asap.

I've been cutting pieces for a quilt and am almost finished, it's been a marathon - about 600 pieces, all curved, so I'm hoping to start putting it together today.
