Trying to charge me to repair a broken item they sent me

Hi,
I ordered a refurbished iPad mini from a website called Quick Mobile Fix for 89.99 (good condition) on the 12th of February. I paid by debit card. The item still hadn't arrived after 10 days so as instructed I emailed to request a refund. They rang me and said they could now send one out, so I told them to go for it. I realised why they'd suddenly been able to get their hands on one when it arrived as the screen was broken.
I informed Quick Mobile Fix of the problem and they blamed the carrier (UPS), told me over the phone that they'd need arrange pick up of the item before making a claim and issuing me my refund.
UPS picked up the iPad and now Quick Mobile Fix are holding it and trying to make me pay 68.99 for a new screen for the broken iPad they sold me as the pressure damage is "not covered by warranty as it does not cover physical or accidental damage". I'm already £90 out of pocket.
I feel like this can't be lawful, and on their TrustPilot website there's a load of other people complaining about being left out of pocket (wish I'd have checked first). Not sure what avenues are open to me though, and any advice would be much appreciated.

What was the period between Receiving delivery and reporting the defect?0

Why does that matter? We're well within 6 months since receipt of goods; in fact we're well within 30 days. (You really shouldn't be trying to give consumer advice - you've been advised time and again that your advice is generally wrong).
OP - raise a chargeback with your card provider ... the seller is an idiot and is chancing his luck.0 -

Errrm it matters a great deal....
If someone has a iPad for, say 2 weeks then later claims it was ‘delivered’ with the screen cracked...it’s highly unlikely it was delivered defective....and it would be the consumer ‘trying it on’
But you continue to live in your dreamworld....
Is a relevant question, like it or not....so you can keep you opinions to yourself....
I hadn’t on this occasion offered consumer advise, I had asked a perfectly reasonable question...
So pipe down...0 -
I prefer to assume that people posting for help are NOT looking to scam sellers. You're entitled to have your own pessimistic view of society.
And it still doesn't matter - if the seller wishes to claim that the buyer caused the damage then they need to prove it. If you bother to read the OP you'll see that the seller accepts that the OP didn't cause the damage - they've tried to pass the blame to the courier (who was THEIR agent) yet still tried to charge the OP for a repair!0 -

Sorry - where did I make that assumption?
I asked a simple but reasonably question? ....which seems to have been met with some unfounded accusations and character assanation....0 -
It wasn't a reasonable question - your follow-up post confirms it.Dean000000 wrote: »If someone has a iPad for, say 2 weeks then later claims it was ‘delivered’ with the screen cracked...it’s highly unlikely it was delivered defective....and it would be the consumer ‘trying it on’
You're accusing me of character assassination- haven't you done the same thing to the OP?0 -

Where are you digging all these assumptions from?
Op posed a question, I asked a reasonable question in return and you’ve chipped in....
