Getting back rental deposit - letting agency delay in making deductions

Hi,

I was hoping for a bit of advice - I have recently moved out of a property which I had rented from a letting agency after 2+ years. Contract ended Mid-february and I gave my keys back on time, never missed any rent payments, etc.

After 4 weeks now, I am still waiting to get my deposit back. The letting agency contacted me ~2weeks ago with a short list of issues which they'll have to deduct from the deposit (replacing a few light bulbs and deep cleaning a couple of kitchen appliances - nothing major!). They said once they have the invoices, they will be in touch to get the remaining deposit back to me.

Obviously I have not heard anything since! I emailed them today an they have replied telling me that they are waiting for an invoice from the cleaners, who won't be going in until the end of next week!

Surely it is not realistic to need to wait 5+ weeks to get a deposit back (though I'm sure not uncommon!)? Can anyone advise where I stand legally with this and what I can do to push things forward a bit? I would really want this deposit back ASAP!

Thank you for your help!

Don't wait for them. Just put in a claim for your whole deposit from the deposit protection service that your deposit was paid into.
Get the ball rolling and then they can justify any deductions to the DPA

The cleaners inability to promptly invoice is not your issue. As advised, prusue this with the dposit scheme.

This is why I always put in a claim for the full amount from the relevant protection scheme within a few days of a tenancy ending.

If you'd have done that you'd probably have the money by now.
