Me too, I'd certainly not log on to MSE and post on the the Consumer Rights forum whilst waiting asking how much more I can blag. Stinks of consumer wants rather than consumer rights. OP appears to have been in and out of the place in around an hour or so. Reasonably quick I think.

My sympathy dial reached 0 at this "they took one of the meals off the menu after we declined the cakes and asked if we could instead have a discount :-)" The restaurant had messed up. They had tried to put it right, acknowledge the unacceptable wait, offered something and then removed a meal from the bill. (at least I assume it was the bill not the menu) but OP wanted cash instead of cakes. I'm with Marie Antoinette on this.

No I don’t drink coffee. Just left now and they took one of the meals off the menu after we declined the cakes and asked if we could instead have a discount :-)

That seems a bit extreme taking the meal off the menu and not offering it to any customer again just because one customer had a bit of a wait :rotfl:

Oh jeez. Waiting an hour to be served is not reasonable IMO, and we would have actually been waiting forever had we not queried it as they didn't even put through our orders. Waiting a reasonable time to being served is part of my rights actually: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/restaurant-rights/
I don't drink coffee/tea. I couldn't eat their cakes as I have coeliac disease. They offered to remove one meal from the BILL. We felt this was a good response and what we had hoped might be the outcome given the above. I am pleased this was rectified as now we WILL go back in the future. I think it's a shame other people just simply don't go back again if they receive bad service that could have potentially been rectified.

You complained there about a Manager hammering while you had your coffee.

Am in a hugely boring finance meeting..... would like to say that this thread and particularly the quote above has brightened my day no end!

I just love a leisurely meal and some idle chit chat.

After 20 mins or so I'd have caught the waiter(ess) eye and enquired...no drama, no MSE involvement and certainly no trying it on to get more than a freebie coffee.
