Should the house be sold as a 'do it up' or should we re-decorate?

If you commission an Energy Performance Certificate from a Domestic Energy Assessor, the report gives practical advice on how much money you can expect to save on household bills per year by making improvements.

Best of all, the EPC can be included in your Home Information Pack up to a year after it was produced so if you get it in advance you can slot it into your HIP when you come to sell the property so you've lost nothing but can show your buyer how you've tried to make the best of what you've got for them so they don't need to spend a fortune bringing it up to scratch.

If the place was derelict when you moved in then there is no legal obligation to redecorate. You only have to put right any damage you have done beyond normal wear & tear.

What you do will mostly depend on how well you get on with your mum.
Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.

I missed your other thread. Why is your Mum throwing you and your kids out on the streets?

  • If it was me, I would leave it as it is and let your mum sort it out.
I don't know why your mum is throwing you out as I too missed your other thread, but surely she will allow you some leeway, especially as you have kids to take care of?
