Faulty projector out of warranty

Hi there,
First time post so be gentle :-)
I have an optoma projector bought from richer sounds December 2016. The unit was an ex display unit.
Two months into ownership it developed a weird issue where it would power itself on randomly so we’d come home to it all fired up and these things aren’t cheap to run and the bulbs are pricey. I took it back it went away for 2weeks and since then has been good as gold.... until now...
Last week exactly the same issue occurred however this time I am out of warranty. I rang one of the optima service centres and they said it will be £100 to assess it!
My question do I have a leg to stand on here? The way I see it was faulty at purchase and hasn’t been repaired properly so said fault is now back.
If I do have a leg to stand on what’s my next course of action, with richer sounds or optoma directly?
Many thanks for your help!

As you bought the thing from Richer Sounds, all your consumer rights lie with them.
The manufacturer's warranty is in addition to your consumer rights.
The manufacturer owes you nothing beyond that promised in their warranty.0 -

Have you tried going to Richer Sounds. I always buy my TV's etc from the. They offer 5 / 6 year guarantees, so might be worth checking your details with them
I've always found their customer service to be second to none0 -
Op Richer sounds 5/6 year warranty may need you to have taken up that warranty .
Not sure if it would apply to used stuff.

Yes there is only a one year warranty as they only offer extended on new stuff i.e. not exdisplay... will try talking to them but do i have a case here?0

Potentially yes, but after six months from purchase the onus is on you to prove that the fault was inherent at the time you bought. So they might ask you to go and get the assessment report you don't want to pay for.Danwilderspin wrote: »Yes there is only a one year warranty as they only offer extended on new stuff i.e. not exdisplay... will try talking to them but do i have a case here?0 -
Leave it unplugged until you use it ?0

You might well have a claim for this but it would probably just be less hassle to either turn it off at the mains when not in use or get one of the remote control or smart plugs if getting to the main switch is awkward.0

Yea I am doing this now which is fine however I imagine it will he worse rather than better so would be good to know what to do if and when it goes pop0
