Home insurance renewal added contents in a nursing home cover!

OK so it's not news that if you let an insurance policy renew you are getting ripped off.
But this year our buildings and contents insurance policy had extras added. Not for free of course.
Freezer contents cover of £750. Cover for plants and contents in the garden up to £1,500 for each...
Introducing new cover for contents in a nursing home?????
All of these added without asking is cheeky but the last one? My partner and I are in our forties, our parents don't live with us. The provider knows this, adding these extras to our policy on renewal has really annoyed me.
Has this happened to anyone else?

Could these just be standard parts of their offering rather than add-ons that you’re paying for?
Have you shopped around?
They can choose to include what they like in their standard offering but you are expected to read your post (as you have done) and you are free to go elsewhere so not sure what the issue is?
Unless you are saying these are itemised as costing you extra?
In which case I’d be looking elsewhere if you think they are trying to pull fast one.0 -

Insurers need to provide a range of policy covers and extensions which make their policy attractive to a number of people. That will inevitably mean that some people are provided with some parts of the policy which may not be required.
However, it's not compulsory that you renew with the current provider. Why not have a look and see if their premium/terms are attractive compared to other insurers? That would seem more productive that getting cross, possibly unnecessarily.
