HX CAR PARK MANAGEMENT LTD again

Just like Harry's Dad,
In the middle of December we got a letter from a company called HX CAR PARK MANAGEMENT LTD. This was a parking charge, asking for £100 to be paid within 28 days, discounted to £60 if paid within 14 days. It gave the date of offence, registration number and period of parking. The letter described that even though it is described as a PAY AND DISPLAY car park, there was no-one checking displayed parking tickets and the offence was captured using cameras noting time of ingress and egress of the car park. We wrote back to the company explaining that my wife had bought a ticket and displayed it in the car window. The ticket covered the times stated. She still had the ticket so we photographed it and sent a copy with the letter.

We got a reply within a week saying that the ticket was invalid as the registration number on the ticket was not correct. The car Reg. is **** ***, unfortunately when my wife entered the reg no. some of the figures did not go onto the ticket, it typed * ***. They said she should have checked the ticket and rung the number on the charges board to get it amended. She didn't, who would? She had paid and so she displayed. We appealed their decision but were told they only allow 2 errors on the ticket, we had 3 digits missing.

Yesterday, after more than 2 months wait, we received a solicitors letter asking for a charge of £160 to be paid or we may be taken to court to recover the money. We would like to know where we stand in this issue and would you recommend paying it, fighting it or ignoring it.

Clearly you fight it. That's what post #2 of the NEWBIES thread is all about.

    :)
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

You would be wise to remove your car registration number from your post.

Hi Andy. Exactly the same thing happened to me with HX car park management. 7 digit vrn, only entered 4. They took me to court, then never turned up, the judge dismissed the case and awarded me costs.

Don't give in to these hypocrites, pretending they're honest brokers. Only allowing 2 digits wrongly inputted is a ridiculous statement, when they know full well that you have paid.

    Take them on!

Only a judge could decide that, many would think that the matter was de minimis.

We think that it is a scam, complain to your MP, they are on your side.

Get your MP on board, they are totally on your side. On 15th March 2019 a Bill was enacted to curb the excesses of these private parking companies. Codes of Practice are being drawn up, an independent appeals service will be set up, and access to the DVLA's date base more rigorously policed, and persistent offenders denied access. Hopefully life will become impossible for the worst of these scammers.

Until this is done you should still complain to your MP, citing the new legislation.

Just as the clampers were finally closed down, so hopefully will many of these Private Parking Companies.
You never know how far you can go until you go too far.
