Extra Energy

In 2014 we attempted to switch to Extra Energy for dual fuel. As far as I can remember there were numerous issues & they failed to supply us correctly which resulted in Ofgem ordering them to pay us compensation. We moved properties in 2015 but since the start of the year have received numerous calls on my mobile from EE claiming they paid us 2 amounts, one being paid by them by mistake. Despite me trying to obtain paperwork from them in relation to this, this has never been supplied & when I have managed to contact them, always a foreign call centre, they claim their system is down. They state they will register a debt against me which obviously concerns me. Where do we stand as EE are no longer a supplier, we have no paperwork to support or ascertain what they are saying is correct, the 2 sums are for different amounts. Thanks

Any alleged debt will be owed to the administrators so you have, as have several others here, likely been receiving communication from them. They are apparently working from poorly maintained records. Have you not got copies of bills ? Have you not got bank statements to show payments into your account ? Contact the administrators and state that you will consider any claim from them on production of itemised proof of the debt. If they fail to produce proof you will consider the matter closed and any debt collection activity will be considered harassment which is a criminal offence and you will also refer the matter to the IPA.

A lesson for the future !
  • No statements or bills as they never actually supplied us or issued bills plus bank on line so no don’t have statements! Also as I stated this goes back to 2014, we don’t hoard paperwork.

Same thing happening to me over the last week. increasing threatening letters but no response from the company. see this thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5977959/extra-energy-account-closed-administrators-chasing-money-2-years-later
  • The sum they are claiming is owed is not related to fuel provided but is for compensation that they were ordered to pay by Ofgem back in 2014. They are now claiming that they made 2 payments of 2 different sums, one of which was paid in error. Unable to supply paperwork to back up their claim so far.
