Shoe warranty

Hi All
I purchased a pair of shoes in the sale at Debenhams in June last year. £39.99 (purchased from their online store). I can't remember what they were reduced from, maybe £20 or £30 off or something. I assume they were reduced because they were end of line or something. Anyway, here we are, 8 or 9 months later, and one shoe has completely split across the sole.
I enquired in store to be told if the shoes are older than 6 months, there's nothing they can do.
I really didn't know that shoes would come with a meagre 6 month warranty. I just kindof assumed they would have a 12 month warranty. I can't see anything written about this in their Ts and Cs.
Any thoughts on whether this is reasonable? The laces went a couple of weeks ago but that's reasonable wear and tear in my mind - but the sole splitting seems a bit premature.
Thanks for your thoughts.

I’m sure others may have differing opinions but I would suggest that you are wasting your time on this one unless you can identify an inherent fault with the goods (at your cost). Given how much they cost and that any successful refund would take into account and deduct for the period of time you had use of the shows it simply is not worth it.0

It's not that the shoes have a six month warranty, it's because legally after six months it's up to you to prove that the shoes have fallen apart due to manufacturing defects as opposed to wear and tear.0

Depending on the type of shoe, how often they are worn, where they are worn, and your walking style 8-9 months could be very reasonable.
If they have been worn almost every single day with you walking a minimum of a mile a day and with you regularly tripping over your own feet then they've lasted well. If you've only worn them three times, never walked further than door to car and car to door in them then they haven't lasted a reasonable time.
If they've been worn enough for the laces to have already worn and broken then they probably have just had the most use expected from them. If you really like them it's worth looking at getting the one shoe repaired if it doesn't cost too much.0 -
If they are branded shoes you could try contacting the manufacturer, if they were a Debenhams own brand it seems like you may be out of luck.0

Clothing and footwear don't really have warranties as such, just consumer rights.
Wear and tear is a huge factor with clothing. Some people can burn through shoes in a month, runners burn through trainers even quicker.
If you take them back they may be reasonable as even after 6 months they would or should take the level of wear into consideration. No point if the heels are worn down etc but if they are in good all round condition then its worth a try.0 -
It could even be such things as how they have been stored or even something that was on the ground that contaminated and degraded the sole such as spilt fuel at a garage0

Thanks for your thoughts, folks. I always assumed everything came with at least a 12 month warranty. Daft maybe, but that's what I thought. This is the first time I've come across an issue with a product and found that not to be the case.
They didn't have much use to be fair so it's still disappointing that they failed so quickly, but because they were discounted, they're no great loss on this occasion. Had I paid full price, I may feel different. But I'll let this go as life is too short. I just won't buy any shoes from Debenhams again.0
