http://www.flightmapping.com/The above site gives a map of who flies to where. The only direct flight from the UK appears to be on Northwest Airlines out of London Gatwick (LGW) to Minneapolis/St Paul (MSP)

For cheapness you will need to use a hub in the US.

    Good luck.

Airline Network Here are currently showing that they have cheap fares with NWA and a quick search show that they have fares at £637 inc on Saturdays in July direct LGW - MSP. You may want to check your dates for prices if you want direct flights soon. However, as I said above you may well find cheaper fares flying through one of the main US hub airports such as Chicago O'Hare

I have just plugged some random dates into expedia. £400 with Delta via Cincinnati or £550 direct with Northwest (both from Gatwick). Just depends on what is more important to you - a direct flight or £150 !!

Remember you save £150 but that almost equates to $300 and $300 gets you the equivalent almost of spending £300 here in the UK.

My vote goes for flying via a US hub airport and pocketing the difference.

If you were flying very regularly direct flights are then best otherwise you would get really frustrated. But infrequent flyers on business or leisure take the cheaper option.

Try looking on airline websites. I had to book a flight for a friend this week. I found that BA, American air, etc were all cheaper by booking direct. AA even allowed you too chose your seat before booking. I saved £30 in total against all known booking shops.

I have tried searches for Glasgow to San Diego around about 29th September to about Monday 3rd October but the cheapest I can find is £415. Can anyone who is experienced at searches see if they could get a better fare?
    Thanks a lot

Depends very much upon the dates. I have just tried Expedia using the dates I put in for July on Airline Network and the cheapest they come back with is £690.70 with Delta via Cincinnati and £693.30 with NWA direct from Gatwick!

NWA direct flights with Major Travel for same dates are currently £633 inc!!!

Usual advice applies; shop around and a couple of hours surfing can save a few hundred £££. Also as I have said and has been repeated above, I would hub and save the cash if it is the cheapest option, which it nomally is by a country mile.

You have to specify dates. It will be far cheaper in the autumn than the summer. Even cheaper again in Feb if you like the snow and ice

I've just booked to MSP with delta - £404 return! BARGAIN- that's a saving of about £200 over a normal delta fare and £100 over any other fare I could find!!!

    I got it thru www.expedia.co.uk

This is a site for comparing prices.

Or Travelocity have a facility for tracking fares on a destination of your choice
