I deal in rare dance vinyl and the way I do it is auction the rarest bits with all singing all dancing featured listings, galleries and all then link to shop items in that auction, get loads of sales this way. Costs me £4 to list the rare bit but the right people then see the lesser stuff and buy.

Thanks for all the info, I have more questions, lol. When you say 3:1 ratio do you mean 3 normal auctions to 1 shop inventory?
When listing I assume you get the choice to put it in either the shop inventory or as a normal BIN or auction? Do you pay for gallery with shop inventory listings?

    Just before I start work...

3 shop listings to 1 Auction works well for me in gaining enough exposure, although it does depend on the category you list in - Clothes and DVD's etc need more auctions as it is a much bigger category.

When you use the Sell Your Item form, you will currently see two tans in the Price section - one is Auction, the other is BIN. With shops you get a third option of Shop Inventory.

The gallery is 3p per listing per 30 days on shop listings.

it all depends on the items for sale. ive got friends with ebay shops and they all say its a waste of time.

from a buyers point of view, i never/rarely look at ebay shops.

It's not WHAT you sell, but HOW you sell !!!

Also, you probably do not actively search for Shop Listings, people rarely do, but if you are browsing items and searching amongst a sellers items, the chances are you will be buying from Shop listings without realising it.

I think I might give it a go for 30 days trial. I have a chance to pick up some cheap stock and I could shove it in there on BINs linked to my normal auctions.
