Watch repair

I took my watch to an independent watch repair shop two years ago, I had been warned the guy was slow!!
I have emailed and phoned several times. Now the guy says he’s struggling to find my watch in his work shop.
I didn’t get receipt at the time, what can I do.?
Many thanks
Sheldon

    Very little.

Any proof you actually even dropped it off? Or that the watch existed?
  • Make sure that you keep copies of all of the e-mails you have sent and received as these may well show enough to tip the balance in your favour in proving that the repairer did take possession of your watch.

Maybe he fixed it, realised you weren't coming back so took a Lien on it, sold it to recover his costs.

That's about as likely as someone dropping off a watch, not getting proof and not chasing it up for 2 years in the first place.
  • Thanks for your nice reply. I had been chasing it up monthly. Glad the world is full of helpful people!

Don't worry too much about the reply from bris.
Read a few more of his posts and you will see that this is normal for him, jumping in feet first with incorrect assumptions that end up making him look like a total idiot.
He seems more interested in making himself look big rather than trying to actually help others.

So you don't know what a Lien is? The post has now changed, suddenly its been chased every month, isn't that crucial information? If you get half a story the yes the assumption was he left it for 2 years.

I know exactly what a lien is and I also know that it has nothing to do with the OP's problem.
If the repairer was holding the watch until it had been paid for then why didn't they simply state this instead of saying that they couldn't find it?

    As to the story changing.
The OP stated that they had been in contact with the repairer and had "emailed and phoned several times."

If you had asked if any contact had been made in the previous two years instead of simply making an incorrect assumption (as you often do), then the OP could have clarified the point.
