How to pay gas bill when I'm not a customer

Hi,
I had to rent my home out a couple of years ago and move back in with family. My tenants vacated August 2018 and I finally sold the property Feb 2019.

The property has remained vacant and the gas was switched off.

I called NPower to see if there was any money owing between those 2 dates. They said they can't speak to me because I don't have a customer account. I called again and was told there is an estimated standing charge of £600. This lady put me through to the billing department so they could recalculate the bill for me based on the dates above. This person told me they couldn't speak to me because I'm not an account holder. They went on to say all I could do was email the complaints department. I've done this but I'm worried how this will affect my credit history or anything else it might possible link to.

Has anyone else ever experienced this?

Regards,
Lisa

How can the standing charge for six months be £600? Worst case is about 30p/day for each fuel so at most would be about £110 or if just gas then just £55.

If you aren't the account holder then they should not have told you how much was owed but it sounds to me like the tenants might have skipped owing NPower money for their final bill.
