I know a few of love a good debit card thread.
It appears RBS / NatWest are trailing Biometric Debit Cards with a handful of custoners.

I know not everyone has/wants a smartphone so it'd be interesting to see if they'd be willing to use fingerprint recognition on a debit card; if the trial is successful I'm guessing we're heading to higher limits on contactless transactions (not including Apple/Google/Samsung Pay). It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0

Looks interesting! Would love to see contactless limit amount rise to be honest.0

I think it is amazing how technology advances there are some very clever people around
I can see that you will require a thumb print on your contactless card for all amounts or at least it option to have that which hopefully will allay some people's fears about contactless and unauthorised use if you lose the card0 -
So that's going to be easy pickings to get someone drunk and then use their thumbprint to authorize a transaction while they are not capable of anything.
Easy way to bypass needing to know then pin codes and exactly why I do not have thumb print authorisation on anything
I predict trouble ahead....0 -
Then this forum will be getting swamped with one post wonders complaining that either their fingerprints were faked or they were pressured into using their fingerprints and then their money stolen.0

Presumably this is a precursor to raising the £30 contactless limit. On Google & Apple Pay with smartphones (which need to be activated with PIN or fingerprint before use) , the limit is already higher (it seems to vary with retailer. However, many retailers insist on Chip & PIN amd won't accept NFC phone transaction for over £30. I saw a tatty sign recently on a "pay at pump" petrol machine saying "phone pay not valid for more than £30". A bit frustrating at present, and such cards may clear up confusion.
I presume the banks can see and assess the actual volume and types of fraud, and so think such a card will be acceptable. I'm a fan, but still must carry cash for situations where card/phone/contactless is not accepted, or for where the terminal equipment is broken.
Cash and cheques ARE going, but there will be a "long tail" of gradually declining use. Next will be extra charges for using cheques, I bet.0
