Hi all
Would like your views on this one please, tad complicated so I’ll try my best, Bought a car on finiance from Arnold Clark last may , I received the welcome pack with the usual stuff including my mot
The mot was up in a weeks time so i phoned my garage to book it in
I should add that on the mot there are no advisory’s.
Later that day my garage phone to say that the mot is not due till early may, So after me going down to see them with mot and a bit of computer work it seems, The woman who had the car before me gets it mot on the feb, then trades it in to Arnold Clark on the may , who then do there own mot , I can only imagine to have a car with a full yrs mot when the put it out on the forecourt , But anyway when I buy the car they give me the womans mot and don’t give the one they did.
Now the garage I go to managed to get a print out and it seems Arnold Clark put 2 advisory’s regarding McPherson struts .
I’m more than a bit !!!!ed of at this , have i a legitimate gripe here ?

No you don't have a gripe. It had a valid MOT.

No you don't have a gripe, the car had a year's MOT on it.

Mot histories are now available to everybody on-line. It is always worth looking at the MOT history when buying a used car, it tells you a lot about the previous use of the vehicle and shows any advisories.

You're upset because it has a longer MOT than you thought? Advisories can stay the same for years, or even go away.

I've had an advisory on rear no plate and rear shock, (slight leak) for last 6 years...
So easy to check on line anyway, something I always do nowadays as a matter of course

What does the Advisory note actually say about the struts? Could be anything from surface corrosion around the top plates, to a leaking shock absorber. An advisory note is simply that: advice to note for future MOT tests.
Bit strange not to give you the full year's MOT, don't understand why they would do that. As most garages would be happy to sell a car with a longer MOT, I think it must have been administrative error or simple forgetfulness. In any case, you have a car with a longer MOT than you thought it had, with no Fails recorded. Maybe they should have charged you a little more for it?
I think this job really needs

Maybe it’s just me , I would have like the correct mot when I got the car , but at least I’ve now got two extra months to save up for the undoubted McPherson strut issues lol, Thanks for the replies folks

You didn't answer the question: what did the Advisory say about the struts? Based upon that, we may be able to give an indication of their expected condition by the next MOT test.

McPherson strut has slight movement at upper attachment nearside front 2.5.A.1C
    Same on offside front
