Quick chargeback question

in Credit cards
I paid my water bill last week by credit card (0% for 20 months). Water company are saying it isn't showing on my account, despite it being shown as a pending payment online, and me having a payment reference number. I paid it over the phone on an automated payment line.
IF things don't get resolved this week, could I ask the cc company to charge it back? After all, if Yorkshire water haven't had it, they can't complain if it's taken back.

I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.

If they haven't had it, it will just bounce back and not be taken.
If they do receive it, ask them to refund it, rather than go the chargeback route, which will make things messy.0 -

Wait to see what happens with the pending payment.
The reason why it is not yet showing on your account with the water company is probably because it hasn't been processed yet. You don't say which day last week you used the automated system but it can take time for the payment to be showing up on your account.
The fact that it is showing as a pending payment shows that the transaction was authorised. These sort of transactions can take time to be processed
Not sure why you are worried at this early stage as I can see no real cause for concern.
If the payment fails to show on your account after you have waited a reasonable period from the date that the pending transaction goes through, then call the water company, tell them what has occurred and provide the payment reference. They should then be able to look into what has happened to the payment. I assume you are sure that you entered your correct account details.
I think chargeback would be inappropriate here. .0 -
These replies aren’t very useful
If the amount debits your account then yes there is a chargeback for this situation under both MasterCard and Visa.0 -
The replies are spot on IF you bother to read the OPs comments - they aren’t looking for a chargeback, they want their payment to go through.0
