Buying a used car

Hi
We have to buy a new to us used car, time is of the essence as mine is written off. Looking st small estates sub £10,000.
Anyway the question is: is buy outright the best thing to do as that’s what I’ve always done but it seems the norm that my friends have cats on finance.
Also, independent/approved used schemes/private? Any advice/thoughts? Private scares me a little but I hate buying cars as worried about dodgy second hand car dealers, car supermarkets are generally badly reviewed and approved used are more expensive.
Thanks

If you've always bought outright then why change just because, other people do it different. if you know what car you want look at all the options and see what deal looks best after doing all the normal checks.

Do you have the money without boring it? Would it get a better rate of interest if you kept the money against the rate that you would be paying in interest on the purchase of the car?

I have a dog on HP. Does that count?

Finance packages available on 2nd hand cars seem very expensive from what I’ve seen. It’s clear why garages are so keen to sell you finance as well as the car.
