in Energy
Ive phoned up UW and registered my account and they tried to sell me every other possible bundle addition under the sun but I refused (as I live in Hull so cant use their BB anyway) but Ive not had any confirmation in email or anything that I have an account with them.
I am still the owner of my old house (will be going on the market soon) so still need to pay for the gas / electric there as well as in new house.
How does this all work, do Eon need to come and fit new smart meters at new house (theres currently UW smart meters here). I am unable to give EOn meter readings from new house (or old house) as they are smart meters
Thanks

You do not transfer a tariff agreement from one property to another. You continue to pay for your old house with the E.ON tariff until sale is completed. You then get a final bill for the old property.
You are on a deemed contract with UW from the day you took ownership, and will remain until you register and agree a tariff. Then you can consider switching, but the tariffs available may not match those that you had in your old property, and the UW smart meters may bot be read by other suppliers.
You can take manual readings from Smart meters.0 -
You can transfer tarrifs, I have done before and with EOn. I specifically chose the fix I did as you could, although now EOn are saying I cant (and I only signed up to it because the MSE energy club page said I could port it)
I have no idea how I take manual readings, the instructions for the internal smart display that came with the meters does not explain how to. If you know how to do it can you let me know please?0 -
Is it a type that has a small keyboard - my elec and gas require you to press button 9Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

You probably cant port it across because you haven't yet closed it at your previous address, you are still responsible for the bills until the new owners take it over - It's unlikely that they'll let you run the same account/tariff at both addresses.
If they do allow you to transfer then you may have to close the account at the old house and transfer to a default tariff there before they'll take you on at the new place.
As said above - READ YOUR METERS and send in the readings (and record them yourself). Don't rely on the fact that they are smart meters - not all smart meters work properly and some supplier are pretty poor and recording the data from them.
You could get caught paying for energy from the previous owner if they haven't been keeping their accounts up to date.
You really do need to take charge of this one and ensure that you take readings, confirm them with UW and keep your own records - take photo's of the meters as well.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Eon now use the Secure Liberty meters which UW use so they will not need to fit a new meter. Just make sure not to read the number after the hard to see decimal point. Use the meter not the In House Display, the gas reading may be displayed in KWHs..only on the IHD . The meter will only operate in dumb mode once Eon take over.
Electric reading is on the second screen after pressing button 9, ignore the confusing KWarH reading on one of the screens0 -
I knew about not having the same tariff at both address, I was quite prepared to go onto SVR at old house as Ill be using neglible energy there. EOn have categorically stated I cannot move it over at all even if I had sold the house already.matelodave wrote: »You probably cant port it across because you haven't yet closed it at your previous address, you are still responsible for the bills until the new owners take it over - It's unlikely that they'll let you run the same account/tariff at both addresses.

Hello clairet707 and hope the move went well.
When you're ready to give up responsibility for the old house, there's a form on our website you can use to let us have the details. We'll use this information to close your account and send a final bill.
If the smart meters are communicating with us, we can download meter readings. If not, we'll be happy to explain how to take your own readings. As Houbara says, take these from the meter and not the In-Home Display (IHD). We've used several different makes of smart meter. Please tell us which one you have (it'll say on the meter itself) and we'll let you know what to do.
Should you want us to supply energy at the new house, please start a change of supplier. Once done, we can assess the smart meters at the house to see whether or not we can continue to use them as smart. If not, we'll check whether we need to do a remote upgrade so they can be managed in the same way as SMETS2 or fit new SMETS2 meters.
I spoke about porting your tariff on a separate thread at the following link. I'd stay on this tariff at your old house until you're ready to close this account.

Hope this is of interest clairet707. Let me know if you need any more information and hope you'll be very happy in your new home.
