Home phone handset recommendation please.

I really need a new cordless home phone - can anyone recommend a model please?

I've had a look on amazon just to get a idea for what's available but despite setting filters I seem to get lots with answering machines (don't want that) call blocking (don't want that) - all I want is to make and receive calls, and caller iD. Just a single handset.

I bought a BT one a while ago but the sound quality seemed distorted so it went back. Maybe you could let me know what you have and what you think of it?

Thanks

DS

BT 8500 or 8600 with incorporated call blocker.
  • Panasonic seem to have best call quality. Although none are as intuative to use as a mobile

I'd second Panasonic as we've got both BT & Panasonic, mine at least, easily beats the BT handset for call quality (that said I've got tht BT one plugged in :( )

We bought a Panasonic base unit with two cordless handsets in about 2000, then added another handset in 2003
Dare I say that they are all still working fine now, and call quality is good.

Thanks. My existing very old one is also Panasonic - I'll take a look at those and probably also investigate BT a bit more, though I don't want to pay for a call blocker as I get less than one junk call every 6 months!

    Thanks again for the advice.

You dont pay extra for a call blocker on the BT 8500/8600.
They give you the option to block calls .#
Have a Whitlist and other callers are answered with please leave a message > Spammers ring off /

Yes but the price of the handset might be slightly higher than one that doesn't have call blocker. I don't want to stop people ringing me, even if I don't know them, I need to be contactable because of my voluntary work and people don't always like leaving messages.

And I'd rather take the calls than have to ring people back and spend my own money, I only have weekend inclusive calls on my contract and mobile signal is rubbish out here in the sticks. For some reason spammers don't seem to have found me!

    Thanks
  • Not many without answering machines nowadays but you can switch them off if you don't want to use it. Go for Panasonic if you want reliability on a budget and for Gigaset if you want best sound quality.
