Turned down for Santander credit card after PPI claim

Hi, I've been turned down for a Santander balance transfer credit card. I've never been turned down for a credit card before and using the credit card club I have a score of 999, the only thing I can think of is I recently did a Debenhams PPI claim which was handled by Santander - could this be the reason? Also, now they've turned me down does that mean I can't apply to anyone else?

No, neither your PPI complaint nor your 999 score are factors in lending.
You can apply anywhere you want. But check your three credit files before applying elsewhere. Try to work out why you're not meeting lender criteria.0 -
You need to consider
a) your income
b) your current debt levels
c) your credit history - as zx81 says, check all 3 files just in case. MSE credit club has given me 999 since I registered. While the scores are meaningless, ClearScore and Noddle both don't rate me as perfect as I have a debt on a BT card which I'm paying off which is more realisticSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Your credit history may be fine but after a search, you may not be the target customer they are going for?
For example, in their opinion you won't earn them any/much money based on your previous history of credit.
You can also be turned down if there are inconsistencies in the data you supplied on your application either intentional or by mistake. Companies use National Hunter to match against previous applied for credit and the data you supplied on those applicaton forms.. If there are major differences, it can throw a red flag and can cause a decline.
As previous posters have said.... take a look at your credit reports to see if there is anything untoward? Santander tend to check Equifax and Experian but best to check all three.0 -
Just apply to another lender - your credit number and previous PPI claim wont have an impact.0
