Didn’t display ticket

Hi, I received a parking fine for Birmingham CC for not displaying my ticket on the dashboard of my car. There were some signs on the ticket machine stating there was no need to display tickets, but in hindsight I now understand it to apply to phone payments. There was a raised tariffs charges board which said it was Pay & Display, I just didn’t read it.
The car registration number is printed on the ticket, so there is proof of payment.
Is it worth appealing? Has anyone else been successful?
