Galaxy auto transmission problems

Not good. Only 1,3,5 working now. Even then it slips into neutral...

Local place told me £3500 to sort. Surely not?

    Powershift auto by any chance?

Google is your friend for more on this disastrous piece of junk.

This happened to my VW DSG auto at about 100k miles. I was told that it was one half of the dual cluch system that had failed and that it was about £1800 to fix (company car so I didn't really care).
  • Chuck a second hand gearbox in if you wish - but chances are it'll be duff again in no time.
A properly rebuilt gearbox is indeed several thousand - thanks to Ford for making another piece of automotive junk!

Convert it to a manual gearbox.

  • Convert it to a manual gearbox.

    Is that even possible?

Best to stick with tried and tested torque converter autoboxes, imho.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

Yes. You just need all the bits from a donor car so gearbox, flywheel, clutch, gearbox mounts, driveshafts, gearchange linkages, clutch cable, gearstick, brake/clutch pedal box with brake and clutch pedals, centre console trim, possibly a different speedo and maybe some ECU tinkering to tell it its a manual.

Yes its possible, as post #9 shows what may need changing its not a minor job. But it could be more cost effective for some.

Pickup a crashed car and remove the bits, then scrap the car to reclaim some money. Buy right and you could get all your money back on that part alone.

Then a good few hours swapping bits over, not as easy with a modern car where you may need to add additional wires.

ie. as well as no clutch pedal, there wont be the wiring and switches for the clutch pedal either.

Hundreds doing the swap and some dirty hands or thousands getting the autobox repaired?

Most popular choice is either payup and cry a bit as you pay, or sell it for spares/repairs and buy something else and never buy a powershift ever again.

  • Heres update - not sure I understand. Do they mean ECU?

"The engineers is under to opinion that the car has an control unit fault and that is causing the problem as other data is normal.

They are putting on a different test rig from the factory as we don’t have this equipment and can let you know by lunch time of the outcome."
